Kendrick Lamar Superbowl Performance and Captain America: Brave New World Make For An Epic Black History Month

This year, Black History Month will go down in…well, history!

For those of you who weren't captivated by sportsball, Kendrick Lamar put on an amazing Superbowl Halftime show. While there's one side of me that feels he should have been more blatant in much of his symbolism, I also recognize that the NFL would never allow it. Also, part of what makes Kendrick stand out as an artist is utilizing this type of subtlety. It may go over some peoples heads, but if you know, then you know.

Jessica Clemmons from New Rockstars did an amazing breakdown of the Superbowl Halftime show. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/Gdg8ZYcujvI?si=Heq4nYZ1RmWI65gk

And not even a week later, we get the premiere of Captain America: Brave New World.

I'm not here to spoil it for you in this post. I know many bloggers have released their reviews and are giving it negative reviews. So I'll say this: This movie is good, this movie is relevant to the current times. And if you walk away from the movie theater feeling meh about it, watch it again. Even I feel like there are things I missed the first time around. While this movie isn't high on comedy (we have Thunderbolts in May for that), it definitely hit me on an emotional level. Take that as you will.

So if having a Black Superbowl Halftime Show and a Black Captain America less than a week apart and during Black History Month, well, lets just wait to see how they do it up next year.

I'm loving this month though :)
